To put this presentation into perspective, I first must paint a background.
Telstra is the current manifestation of the traditional government-owned telco. Telstra is now undergoing privatisation in a deregulated market, but historically Telstra was a monopoly and did every thing.
As a consequence, it is a full service provider, and provides traditional telephony services, voice & data, long distance, and the like. You can appreciate that Telstra has to operate a lot of legacy plant.
Telstra has a host of data-com services - very large mobile networks - Australia has one of the highest per capita usage of mobile phones in the world - heaps of different wireless services including satellite.
Telstra even provides Australia’s largest cable TV network and of course, not to miss out on the flavour of the millenium, Telstra is big into the Internet as an ISP.
