  IMS   Detailed Information

Intelligent Monitoring System (IMS) is a universal voltage input model monitoring platform. The following is a summary of features relevant to Telepower Australia's generic IMS platform for the monitoring of batteries in dc power systems.

Battery & Power System Applications
  • Suits any combination and connection scheme of cells, monoblocks, sensors and interconnects.
  • A single IMS unit suits up to one 48V string of 2V cells, or three 48V strings of 6V monoblocks, or six 48V strings of 12V monoblocks, including current sensing for each string and temperature sensing of battery case and ambient air.
  • On-line impedance measurements across cells, monoblocks, interconnects and battery banks.
  • Expert system to locally mine and interpret logged power system data.
  • Power systems with a large number of cells, or high voltage strings, are monitored simply by using multiple IMS units. An isolated RS232 network addresses up to 15 IMS units in a daisy chain connection scheme.
  • Suits retrofit and new installations.
  • Low cost.
Operational simplicity
  • Fully independent and stand-alone operation.
  • Operation is transparent and non-invasive to the power system. The unit can be powered from the monitored battery string, with an average power consumption of only 1.5W.
  • Suitable for power systems of all sizes, with no need to alter hardware.
  • Operation is fully automated and software configured.
  • Measurement process is auto-ranging, auto-calibrating, temperature insensitive and self-protecting.
  • Full local and remote access. Windows-based VisualBasic software provides user-friendly functions including data download, on-line surveillance, software upgrade and history interrogation.
  • Complete history retention on site.
  • IMS is essentially future-proof with fully upgradeable software.
  • Housing is small, light weight, and resistant to dust and insect vermin.
Intelligent outputs
  • Health prediction.
  • Time-to-run prediction.
  • Intelligent alarm generation.
  • Accurate measurement of battery and power system parameters.
Voltage-based inputs
  • Inputs are typically configured as 32 differential pairs (with 31 intra-pairs), but can be software configured to suit other schemes.
  • Inputs are multiplexed using 400V photomos relays to allow any two input connections to be measured.
  • Measurement of DC-coupled voltage and AC-coupled voltage for impedance are automated.
  • Accepts a wide range of input levels, with software controlled binary auto-ranging over nearly four decades of magnitude.
  • Allows measurement of both high-level load current and low-level float current using the same battery string shunt. Current resolution better than 5mA for a 100mV 100A shunt.
Schematic diagrams Specifications Technology Licencing

Telepower Australia is licencing IMS technology for product manufacture and/or integration into OEM equipment. In general, an IMS licence fee and royalty provides access to:

  • hardware, firmware, software, implementation procedures and specifications
  • software upgrades as part of Telepower Australia’s on-going IMS platform improvement program

Consultancy and design services to customise the IMS platform are available at an agreed fee rate.
